Google Takeout
Important Notes:
What is Google Takeout? Google Takeout is a tool that lets you download your data from Google's services. This includes your emails, documents, calendar events, photos, and more.
Choosing Your Files: When you use Google Takeout, you can select which files you want to download. Be careful with your choices, especially if you're selecting a large shared folder, as the resulting file could be quite big.
Downloading Your Data: Once you've selected your files, Google Takeout will create a zip file for you to download. This process can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few days, depending on how much data you have.
File Formats: Your files will be converted into a format that's easy to download, like Word or PowerPoint. Just be aware that some recent changes might not be included in your download.
Uploading to Google Drive: After you've downloaded your data, you can upload it to a personal Cloud storage service like Google Drive.
Storage Space: Remember, all Google Accounts come with 15 GB of free storage. If you need more, there are upgrade options available.
Opening Files: You can open Word and PowerPoint files in Google Docs and Slides. Just be aware that there might be some slight changes to the formatting.
Deleting Data: Downloading your data doesn't delete it from Google's servers. If you want to delete your data, you'll need to follow a different process.
Video Tutorials: The two videos below show you how to (1) do the Google Takeout and (2) import downloaded files in Google Drive.
Remember, this is a simplified guide. For more detailed instructions, you can check out the official Google Takeout support page. You can also contact our EdTech Specialist for help.
